Step into the Silver Oaks audio recording studio and hear something different every day

05SEPT07

In our last issue, we asked you to pronounce “syphgmomanometer.” Were you even close? While it’s definitely easier to say “the pressure gauge and arm cuff used for taking blood pressure,” Silver Oaks’ audio recording studio often echoes with big words like “syphgmomanometer” and “deoxyribonucleic acid.” Hear it!

Besides recording medical terminology for online textbook study guides, you’ll also hear voice talent recording TV and radio commercials, as well as audio post-production work on corporate promotional or training videos and original Flash animation videos for websites. And you’ll hear more than just the human voice. Employees within earshot of the audio studio often overhear everything from a steam locomotive echoing through the hall to croaking frogs, jet engines, breaking glass and applause, plus musical snippets of all styles and genres.

The audio recording process takes place in a glass-front soundproof booth and voiceover room. Our audio engineers use digidesign Pro-Tools HD, professional-grade audio recording and editing software, which allows us to perform fine-detail editing. One of the most enjoyable parts of our job—and sometimes the biggest challenge—is finding the exact sound effect called for by the director or client. The job is made easier, however, with our extensive music and sound effects library plus in-studio keyboards. Clients are welcome to sit with the recording engineer and director during recording, or be “patched-in” to the system and participate in the process from their office. Whether it’s for an interactive game on a website introducing customers to a new product, or the tried-and-true medium of TV or radio advertising, Silver Oaks’ audio department provides professional recording services—with memorable, attention-getting sound effects.
