Report from NAB 200619SEP06The world’s largest electronic media show, ImMEDIAte Future, converged on the Las Vegas Convention Center in late April and Silver Oaks was there to keep a finger on the pulse of the latest developments and trends in the industry. For the 33rd straight year, Silver Oaks has attended NAB (National Association of Broadcasters), the largest electronic media conference and exhibition in the world. NAB is the place that new innovative technologies, services and products debut each year. NAB 2006 brought together more than 1,400 exhibitors and more than 105,000 media professionals from all over the world to catch a glimpse of today’s emerging media technologies. Low-cost camcorders that use Flash RAM and Blu-Ray style lasers created a major buzz at this year’s show. New technologies for future media consumption proved to be a hot ticket as well. Exhibits showcased the latest in digital TV, mobile and Web technologies and broadcast radio. This year Silver Oaks sent representatives from our interactive, design, video and animation departments to the conference. They participated in sessions that showcased the latest perspectives in digital technology like high-definition editing and delivery as well as new audio technologies. The team learned new 3D techniques to bring objects to life using Autodesk Maya and Combustion. The Maya demonstration featured full body IK for character animation, and new shading networks for cartoon-like images. The new Combustion features for effects and compositing were of special interest to Silver Oaks and are being used in our studios. As electronic media evolves, Silver Oaks continues to apply its experience and knowledge toward the new techniques, trends and tools that are shaping today’s marketplace.
