"What's For Lunch?" Interactive
Project Description
As part of the “Lizards and The Komodo King” exhibit at the John G. Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, Illinois, Silver Oaks created a series of four computer-based touchscreen interactives titled “What’s for Lunch?” The interactives are incorporated into a 1950s diner display. Users are invited to sit down at the diner display counter and help the waitress, Liz, sort through a mess of orders placed by a bunch of lizards. Assisted by a series of clues provided by the other diner employees, users are charged with the task of figuring which lizard ordered what meal.
The diner employees were filmed on green screen, allowing Silver Oaks to place the characters in customized settings. Silver Oaks designed these backgrounds using a combination of photos and graphics, making the character appear as if they are actually behind the diner counter. The menu serves as the interface, and the clues are supplemented by animations and actual footage of what lizards really eat.
