Project Description

The Mississippi River is a rich resource for recreation, commerce, transportation and wildlife, yet few people who live along the river fully understand the significance of the role it plays in their lives. The Mississippi River Visitor Center, located above Lock and Dam 15 in Rock Island, Illinois, strives to fill this gap in awareness.

To serve as the focal feature of the Visitor Center’s auditorium, Silver Oaks produced a 15-minute video presentation – highlighting the evolution of river-use from the early 1800s to today. Historical photos, video footage, beautiful nature photography and detailed 3D animations are woven together to show how the needs in transportation and commerce have led to the creation of the lock and dam system, as well as the role that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plays in regulating the river’s depth. Vintage footage of the construction of Lock and Dam 15 is included as well. Once complete, the video was also made available on DVD for distribution.
