Project Description

As part of Chicago History Museum’s interior renovation project, Silver Oaks produced and fabricated “Street Smarts.” Located on the second floor balcony, the look and theme of the interactive display correlates with a large street sign mobile that hangs over the entry hall. The DVD-based program is designed as a multiple-choice game and quizzes visitors on their historical street smarts. Clues are provided, and visitors are charged with the task of identifying the correct street or intersection. Historical and modern-day photos with various factoids are incorporated on each screen, as well as fun animations that bring the photos “to life” when a street or intersection is correctly identified. The 42″ touchscreen monitor is housed in a simple, clean cut, angular wood display that blends with the tones of the surrounding oak floor and maple wall.
