Project Description

Bringing the sounds of a 1920s excursion steamboat to life, Silver Oaks produced a multi-channel synchronized audio program for the Paddle Wheeler exhibit at the River Music Experience museum. Silver Oaks worked closely with the project designer to produce an audio program that accurately depicts the “river life” portrayed on a scale model reproduction of the S.S. Capitol. As visitors walk around the steamboat model, they are taken back in time through snippets of conversations and songs — the captain shouting orders to the crew, band members discussing a song, passengers discussing politics, a few bars of music from the jazz musicians, etc. Immersed in the sounds of the time, visitors experience by ear how the steamboat was instrumental in bringing Dixieland jazz up the Mississippi River.
