Project Description

The US Army came to us with a problem: too many soldiers were being injured because they did not set the headspace and timing of the M-2 machine gun correctly. They wanted a training tape to show how to set the headspace and timing, but they also needed a public service announcement to create awareness about this issue. They wanted a spokesperson who could talk to the young soldiers – a person that these soldiers could relate to and respect. The decision was made to use the drivers of the US Army NASCAR. A Silver Oaks crew traveled to Phoenix where Mark Martin and Regan Smith, the drivers, were practicing for an upcoming race. The footage was edited with race footage and M-2 training footage in an exciting, fast-paced style. This PSA played on the Armed Forces TV Network around the world.
